Overview

Government-owned schools catering to a diverse student population from elementary to high school levels. You will be working alongside a local teacher.

Recognising the importance of English proficiency for national and global engagement, these institutions have made English instruction mandatory for students in grades seven to nine. Although the schools rely on traditional teaching methods and lack experience with native English-speaking teachers, the students are eager to learn from enthusiastic and fluent educators who can bring innovative techniques to the classroom.

Class sizes range from 15 to 35 students per grade or classroom (aged 6-16 years), and teachers are encouraged to bring supplementary materials and employ creative approaches to make lessons both educational and enjoyable.

Previous teaching experience in English is not required to participate in this program. The main objective is to introduce students to the language in an approachable and engaging manner. Instead of expecting immediate fluency, the focus should be on helping students grasp fundamental words and phrases that will enhance their language comprehension. Demonstrating how education unlocks opportunities and broadens horizons is crucial, encouraging students to pursue further education and professional development for a brighter future. Furthermore, this multicultural exchange fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures and perspectives beyond the scope of English lessons alone.

Generally, you can expect to:
• Teach English alongside local teachers.
• Create lesson plans for different grade levels and ages.
• Prepare monthly goals to be achieved by the pupils/students alongside local teachers and local program coordinator.
• Organise fun games to help them learn through play.
• While teaching English, you might also pass on important lessons like motivation, the importance of education, and even hygiene and sanitation routines the students could benefit from, as well as sharing with them a piece of your own culture and background.
• Join other activities conducted at the school.
• Facilitate learning activities such as playing fun games, arts, songs, dances, grammar and conversational exercises, sports, and other related activities.
