Dear Lauren,
Thank you so much for giving us this amazing opportunity to travel to Cambodia and work in the hospital in Samroang. It has has been such an experience for both my daughter and myself. In fact, she is very keen to go back to Samroang and work with the local NGO to spead awareness about basic hygiene like washing hands with soap and brushing teeth. We found many of the patients in hospital had gastro issues because of poor hygiene and she has decided to start doing something about it by educating the school kids. We will liase with IVI of course when she returns – probably in the summer.
Highlights of the trip: there are so many highlights! The people we met at the Blue House were wonderful and it was lovely to exchange experiences and viewpoints. We ended up meeting in Siem Reap as well.
The Blue House is in such a lovely area…..it was wonderful to bike through the fields and by the lake to go to the Hospital every morning.
The volunteering experience in the hospital was fabulous. The doctors and nurses were so helpful and so kind and Mr. Eaw our guide was very very helpful — he managed to get us to see most of the operations and speak to several doctors.
Comments on the team, food and accommodation:
The team is excellent. Mr Sem was so gentle, polite and accommodating.
The food was a little bland and basic, but of course we understand that this is being done to cut costs so it was fine. It would be great if there was a pedestal fan provided in addition to the wall ones…because sometimes the tin sheds become like saunas at night and it is difficult to sleep.
